As a person who loves candy and eats it every ones in a while, it can be hard to find sweets that are veggie. I have always been a big fan of the candy of this particular Dutch candy brand called Katja. Mainly, because they sold these sour candies that did not include gelatin. Recently, I heard they started selling veggie candy. So I had to try them out. And if you want to try them out also, then please keep on reading to see how you can win a package full of the new Katja veggie sweets!

In every candy or licorice that is made, gelatin is used. Gelatin is a mixture of collagen extracted from the skin, bones and connective tissue of animals. In candy gelatin is used because it works as a binding substance and holds the candy together. Katja has been trying for years to make their candy veggie because most vegetarians and people that practice a particular religion are not allowed to eat gelatin. Now they have achieved it, they are trying to make all their candy in their assortment veggie! At this point in time only the sweets ‘Kattenkoppen’ contain partially gelatin. This does not by any means mean that their candy does not taste as good as they used to, in fact I think they are equally as yummy as they were before! You can recognize the veggie sweets of Katja by the green logo that says ‘I love veggie’.

These sweets shaped in the form of apes contain a licorice and banana flavour. I find that these two flavors go really well with each other, mainly because I absolutely love bananas but also love licorice (I got it from my dad and Dutch people always eat licorice). I give the apes a 9/10.

These are my sisters favourite. These pig shaped sweets are in the flavour strawberry, cherry and raspberry. I like the strawberry flavoured ones but absolutely do not like the raspberry and cherry one. I love cherries and raspberries as fruit but not in candy variety. I give the pigs a 6/10.

Ooohh my gawd! If you guys know me then you will know that I am addicted to sour candy! These sour sticks are in the flavour peach, strawberry, cassis and orange. I absolutely love the cassis flavour along with the orange flavour. I must say that these sticks are not THAT sour, at least for me. I give the sour sticks a 8/10.

Oh Bertha! Where did it go wrong? I know a lot of people might think that there is something wrong with me, but I just do not like custard and yoghurt which are two flavours that this candy contains. I love you Katja, but this is not my thing, unfortunately. If you do like custard and yoghurt, then girl this candy is made for you! I give Bertha a 2/10.

Yay, licorice! I do not have to have to explain how licorice tastes, but the licorice of Kokindjes is sweet licorice just in case massive licorice fans are reading this post. I don’t have much to say about these except for the fact that they taste really yummy! The kokindjes get a 9/10.

And last but not least we have the licorice herrings. The licorice has a sugary coat but it tastes more salty than sweet because it also contains sal ammoniac, which gives it a bit harder and brittle tecture. The licorice herrings get a 9/10 from me.
